Wendy Thompson

Wendy has worked in general practice since qualifying 10 years ago, both privately and for the NHS. She is also an academic researcher at University of Manchester, where her research focuses on keeping antibiotics working as long as possible into the future, by reducing overprescribing by dentists around the world. She chairs the FDI World Dental Federations Antimicrobial Resistance working group and is elected to its science committee. She is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, a Fellow of the College of General Dentistry and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Wendy regularly provides webinars on dental antimicrobial prescribing and her online courses are popular among professional and non-professionals. Occasionally you may catch her in the media too and work under her leadership has won awards for community communication. Wendy is passionate about including public and patients in research, and she is Trustee of a new patient advocacy charity: The AMR Narrative. In her spare time, Wendy loves relaxing with family on the N Lancashire/S Cumbria coast.
